October Selections : Fall Whites
Dirler-Cade Pinot d'Alsace '17
Not quite Germany and not quite France, the Alsace region sits on the border between the two countries and has flip flopped nationality numerous times over the past... oh, about 300 years. What were they fighting over exactly? Well, this delightful white should give you some idea! A blend of 55% Pinot Blanc and 45% Auxerrois, made in that classic Alsatian style by a family that's been doing it since 1871. Oh, and their vineyards are certified Biodynamic too, if that means anything to you. Medium bodied with notes of apple, pear, and a subtle creaminess wrapped around a core of wet river stone. A perfect fall white!
Ca del Baio "Luna d'Agosto" Chardonnay '19
The Northern Italian region known as the Piedmont is known for their white truffles, alpine views, and their distinctive red wine made from the Nebbiolo grape. However, amidst tradition there is also the spirit of experimentation and innovation, and that's where you'll find this delightfully unoaked Chardonnay, grown on the estate vineyards of Ca del Baio in the famed Barbaresco subregion. The vines are tended organically without chemical fertilizers or herbicides, and the wine itself is fermented using the yeast naturally found on the skins of the grapes. Almost the perfect opposite of a California oak bomb, this Chardonnay brims with green apple, citrus, and a hint of orange blossom, with a crisp and vibrant finish. This wine will make you a believer in the versatility of Chardonnay!
J. Scott Cellars
J. Scott Cellars is a small boutique wine producer that features wines of the Pacific Northwest. It is their belief that wine is a form of consumable art, where no two pieces are ever exactly alike. Rather, each wine is a "snap-shot" of the growing season, mixed with specific varietal characteristics unique to each grape and a small amount of human intervention. Each of the J. Scott Cellars' wines represent a singular artistic expression of the winemaker. Please enjoy a short video of the production site of J. Scott Cellars Winery. With floral aromas on the nose this wine takes you straight into a blossoming citrus orchard. Perfect for a warm day with its crisp thirst-quenching qualities. It leaves a lingering lemon curd that will keep you craving more of this Spanish varietal.
Love & Squalor
Matt Berson, the winemaker/owner of Love & Squalor, began working in the Oregon wine industry in 2003, after being rudely ejected from his previous career in the restaurant industry. He was rescued and taught the rudiments and joys of winemaking by Patty Green of Patricia Green Cellars. Additionally, he has scurried in the cellars of Jimi Brooks (Brooks), Jay Somers (J. Christopher), Larry McKenna (Escarpment, NZ), and Erni Loosen (Dr. Loosen). He is currently the assistant winemaker for Brooks Handcrafted Wines in the Eola Hills. This Riesling is off-dry. Typical citrus and green apple are present along with tropical fruits, melon and fresh herbs.
